Kent Åstrand is a highly experienced professional with a robust background in mechanical and industrial engineering, as well as a deep understanding of Information Management. Throughout his career at Wärtsilä, Kent has played a crucial role in managing the development and support of enterprise business solutions, as well as spearheading the development of embedded engine control systems. Kent's expertise extends to strategic analysis and planning, contract negotiations, relationship management, and project management. He has thrived in an international business environment throughout his professional career, showcasing his ability to navigate complex global landscapes. Since 2020, Kent has been actively involved in shaping the decarbonization journey of the maritime industry. His work focuses on explaining how fuel flexibility and electrification can support the IMO GHG strategy and comply with regulations, such as the EU’s Fit for 55. His work emphasizes the importance of sustainable fuels and digitalization in achieving a greener future. Kent holds a Master of Science in Engineering from the Helsinki University of Technology, with a major in Mechatronics and a minor in Business Administration. His educational background, combined with his extensive experience, positions him as a thought leader in the maritime decarbonization space.
