Dr. Gu is Vice President of American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and the Head of ABS Global
Simulation Center. As part of ABS Global Engineering and Technology organization, his
team focuses on developing state-of-the-art modeling and simulation capabilities to support
digitalization and decarbonization of the industry. These simulations cover a broad range of
systems across the value chain from a single component of a ship system to the entire supply
chain. This enables shipowners, designers, builders, port operators, government agencies,
and other stakeholders to test, evaluate, and optimize their plans in the digital world.
He currently sits on the Singapore Maritime Institute Technology Advisory Panel and the
Digital Twin Panel of the Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers (SNAME) and is an
Executive Group member of Ship Structure Committee (SSC). He was also a member of the
International Advisory Panel of Singapore Maritime Foundation on Decarbonization in the
Maritime Sector from 2020 to 2021.
He holds a Doctor’s Degree in Engineering from Hiroshima University, Japan
