Angela McKane has recently joined Colbridge Ventures as a Venture Partner, and was formerly VP Technology Insights at bp. Colbridge Ventures is a growth advisory and venture studio for environmental impact startups and partners with firms seeking to scale, at seed stage or beyond. Prior to this, at bp, Angela grew and led a global team, with a powerful digitally-enabled insights capability for the organisation, and with a complementary analyst offer conducting deep dives and in-depth research into emerging technologies and innovations that could provide attractive investment opportunities for our changing global energy landscape.
Earlier in her career, Angela worked at Transport for London ("TfL"), and prior to that at the University of Glasgow. In these roles, she was focussed on privacy and data protection technologies for the secure management of customer (TfL) and student (University of Glasgow) data and records. While at the University of Glasgow, she also led a team managing and researching responses to detailed information requests, including those received under the terms of freedom of information and environmental information laws and relating to University research and IP. Before each of these roles, Angela's first professional appointment after graduating from university was with DSTL - the UK's Defence Science and Technology Laboratory.
Angela was born with a genetic connective tissue disorder, and as a result she is a passionate advocate for the value brought to organizations and teams from disabled talent. Angela believes that navigating the challenges brought by living with a medical condition in day to day life can equip individuals with a certain skillset - the ability to overcome obstacles, to carve a different path forward to the one presented, and to develop grit and resilience while allowing for vulnerability too. These skills are an asset to organisations seeking to develop solutions to the world's problems, including those rising to meet the significant challenges posed by our changing climate, energy mix, and more. Angela explores these topics while interviewing disabled professionals in her column for Oilwoman Magazine: https://oilwomanmagazine.com/author/angela-mckane/
