MILAN – The 50th anniversary edition of Gastech kicks off today in Milan, with ministers, CEOs, and influential figures from across the energy sector taking part.
Italy’s Undersecretary of State at Ministry of Foreign Affairs Manlio Di Stefano will join Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala, and President of the Lombardy Region Attilio Fontana in delivering opening addresses to conference delegates in the Fiera Milano exhibition centre.
Gastech is hosted under the patronage of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of the Environment, the Italian Trade Agency, and the Italian Sustainable Energy & Resources Industry Association.
Giuseppe Sala, Mayor of Milan, commented:
“Milan is delighted to be hosting Gastech 2022 at such a critical time for the energy industry. Not just in Italy, but across Europe, we have all been affected by the energy crisis. Gastech provides a vital opportunity for the industry to work with policymakers to lead a coordinated response, and secure a just and green energy future for all.”
As the challenges facing the energy sector make world headlines, more than ever before, Gastech will be a significant platform for some of the biggest names in the sector. From the impact of the crisis in Ukraine, to the vital role of LNG infrastructure and renewable projects in meeting growing energy demands, Gastech will be the forum for the industry to shape a path forward on key strategic objectives of energy security and a just transition.
Across a four-day programme at Fiera Milano more than 400 speakers will join a range of strategic panels, engaging in both the challenges facing the sector and the major debates around its future. Alongside these sessions, across the Gastech exhibition floor, companies up and down the natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, and low carbon solutions value chain will unveil ground-breaking technologies that will drive efficiency and innovation to new heights, and secure exciting new commercial partnerships.
Throughout the first day of Gastech, attendees will hear from governments shaping global supply chains, as well as the leaders of some of the biggest companies in the industry.
Christopher Hudson, President of Gastech organiser dmg events, commented:
“Addressing the major questions of energy security, transition and affordability requires integrated solutions. As the largest conference of its kind for the gas sector, Gastech brings together top-level ministers and global business leaders to explore the full spectrum of low-carbon energy solutions to these intertwining and often conflicting challenges.”
The opening panel session will see global energy ministers discuss the core issue at the centre of today’s energy landscape: how to balance energy security and a just transition. The panel will feature Hardeep Singh Puri, India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Housing and Urban Affairs; Tarek El-Molla, Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; and João Galamba, Portugal’s State Secretary for Energy. Together they will discuss global energy policies, their country’s priorities, and their plans to secure long term global energy security. Following the panel, top-level executives from ConocoPhillips, Baker Hughes, and Woodside Energy will convene for a panel on the view from the corporate world on balancing supply needs with long-term climate goals.
Attendees will also hear from one of Germany’s leading political figures, Former Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Chairman of The Atlantik-Brücke e.V., Sigmar Gabriel, who will outline in a keynote the significant role of geopolitics in today’s energy sector and provide insight into the evolution of European energy policy. The conference’s opening day will also feature a heavyweight panel on reimagining the global energy system, featuring ministers and high-level political representatives from the EU, Iraq, Turkey, the USA, and the UAE.
Other perspectives from energy leaders will include a keynote on innovation in the sector from Charif Souki, the Executive Chairman of Tellurian, and a strategic panel session on how the industry can safeguard consumers during this period of volatility, featuring former US Secretary of Energy, and President of Sempra Infrastructure, Dan Brouillette and other global business leaders.
These panels and many more activities across the Gastech conference will be available to delegates on the first day of Gastech, including technical and commercial sessions, dedicated networking events, and conference programmes tailored for Future Leaders of the sector, and procurement professionals.
More than 38,000 attendees are expected across the four-day event in the Fiera Milano exhibition centre.
